Manager Intern Guide
Outline
Work placements are arranged to support and bring value-added to the Company. In turn, we
provide Interns with learning opportunities where they gain practical work experience in their
chosen field of study. Interns are not considered substitutes for staff. Their agreements with us
do not represent working employment. Regular touch base meetings with line managers must
be implemented to ensure the interns' development and learning needs are acknowledged and
met.
Conditions
1. It is your responsibility to ensure that your chosen intern fulfils the below eligibility
criteria, in that they must:
• Be a student enrolled in a university or equivalent tertiary institution
• Be enrolled in a course that allows for this work placement as part of their learning
• Have valid UK right to work
• Be able to commit to a work placement with a minimum length of 6 weeks or up to 6
months.
2. Each Team will be restricted to a maximum of two Interns per year to enable efficient
and effective management of the programme.
3. Internships are available for a period of no less than six weeks and no more than six
months. The expected working hours are 40 per week, 9am - 6pm Monday to Friday
inclusive. Interns may work for more or less than this minimum period, subject to the
agreement of the line manager.
4. The expense allowance per intern will be taken out of each departments budget. It is
your responsibility to ensure that your chosen intern's expenses are within the remit of
the daily £15 cap. This amount supports interns based in London zones 1-6. Should you
choose an intern whose expenses exceed your departmental budget, you must:
a. Inform with your department director and HR
b. Consider condensing the work placement length, altering their work rhythm
whereby they work from home a few days a week if possible, and/or ask interns
to travel outside of peak hours to reduce costs
c. Speak with finance to understand the parameters of your work placement
budget and where alternative financial solutions can be sourced
d. Final sign off must be authorised by the CFO
Also note, that if you decide and are authorised to go over the daily £15 cap for your intern, this
will impact the feasibility of additional freelance agreements e.g. extra support needed for
show.
Expensing
As there is no remuneration for work placements, interns are given a travel allowance of up to
£15 per day to support their commute to work. This £15 daily cap should suffice the commute
costs for those travelling within London Zones 1-6.
